08 Nov 2015, Sunday.
It is my girl’s 13th birthday today and we have decided to have our own celebration at Swensen’s at Ang Mo Kio Hub!
For 12 years, we have always celebrated Charlene’s birthday with a cake and invited all our family members. However, this year, due to mom staying in the hospital, we have decided to make it simple, not even a cake, which Charlene thought that it was fine.
She has really matured quite a fair bit in the past 2 years and I am truly glad to have her as my daughter.
Since the beginning of this year, she has stepped into another stage of her life and we witnessed how she has grown to be independent as time passed.
Now that she’s a teenager, our expectations for her will change, just like her expectations of us will change as well, I guess. She will want to be free, she will want to have her own space and time with her schoolmates and friends.
I am glad that she is always so busy with her school activities, student council, junior band, and participated in many other events. And more importantly, despite her busy schedules with her school activities, she has not neglected her studies and scored well in her final year exam.
I hope that she will grow up as a confident and caring individual, one who will contribute to the society in many good ways and also love her own family and cousins.
Of course, if she can excel academically, that will be a plus to our dreams.
Today, I wish her all the best in whatever she does in the future, and I will love her as much as a father should be. I promise I will be there for her whenever she needs me.
Happy birthday Charlene!
