Around us, life bursts forth with miracles – a glass of water, a ray of sunshine, a leaf, a caterpillar, a flower, laughter, raindrops. If you live in awareness, it is easy to see miracles everywhere. Each human being is a multiplicity of miracles. Eyes that see thousands of colours, shapes and forms; ears that hear a bee flying or a thunderclap; a brain that ponders a speck of dust as easily as the entire cosmos; a heart that beats in rhythm with the heartbeat of all beings. When we are tired and feel discouraged by life’s daily struggles, we may not notice these miracles, but they are always there. — Thich Nhat Hanh
What is life’s miracles?
Most people will say that a miracle is something that seems impossible has become reality.
But as I read Thich Nhat Hahn’s daily wisdom, and reflected on my own life, I came to realise that life in itself, as well as everything that come into my life, are miracles.
To be able to come to this world is a miracle;
To have a normal look like my eyes, my nose, my ears and my mouth is a miracle, as not everyone has the blessings from this world;
With my bad habits such as smoking, picky about food, coffee, lack of sleep etc, and yet I’m still standing “strong” and able to go to work, able to travel, able to meditate is a miracle;
If I ponder deeper into what I have been through in my life, regardless positive or negative, they were all miracles, especially when I have been through much dark side and thought I have fallen into the deepest darkness, and yet I am still able to enjoy the morning sun bath every day. This is a miracle.
When I walk along the street, I see fallen leaves dancing in the air, thinking that they will land on a spot, but when the wind blows, they land on an unexpected place, that itself is also a miracle.
When I am free, I can observe of clouds floating gracefully in the sky, I can witness the sun sets and the moon rises, I can enjoy the sight of the rainbow after a rain, or just watch the vehicles whizz past right in front of my eyes. All these are miracles of life!
When someone walks into my life, and from a stranger of another world to someone close to my heart, who can say that is not a miracle?
Everything that is not expected and yet has happened is a miracle.
So, no matter how I look at my life, it’s full of miracles, for I have not wished for them to happen and they happened. It seems like everything has been planned for, and all I need to do is just to let it happen.
As long as we believe, miracles are everywhere……
